Estimate the multi-year cost of a college or training program by combining annual tuition, annual tuition growth, scholarships or grants, and other school costs. Results are estimates only and are intended for planning.
What This Calculator Estimates
This calculator estimates how total tuition and school costs may add up across a multi-year program. It accounts for annual tuition growth, recurring aid, and recurring other school costs so you can build a more realistic planning estimate than a one-year sticker price alone.
Formula / Method Used
The estimate sums each school year separately:
- Tuition for each year grows by the annual tuition increase rate.
- Other annual school costs are added for each year.
- Scholarships and grants are subtracted each year.
- Net estimated cost = total tuition + total other costs - total aid.
Worked Example
If annual tuition starts at $18,000, the program lasts 4 years, tuition rises 3% per year, aid is $5,000 per year, and other annual school costs are $3,500, the calculator estimates each year separately and then combines those yearly totals into one overall cost picture.
What the Result Means
Estimated total tuition shows the projected academic charge across the full program. Estimated total school cost includes tuition plus other annual costs. Estimated aid totals the recurring aid entered. Net estimated cost shows the remaining cost after subtracting aid.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting that tuition can rise each year.
- Using one-time aid as if it repeats every year.
- Leaving out books, supplies, and other school-related costs.
- Assuming the school bill equals the full cost of attendance.
